With all the decisions that you need to make through pregnancy, the considerations you have to take about your growing body, your plans for the first weeks of new parenthood, sometimes thinking about what to pack to go to the hospital to birth your baby can seem overwhelming. To help you, I have created a handy checklist that should cover off most of what you will need and should at least help you get started!
It can help to break it down into three different categories. This makes it easier to plan your packing but also physically having three different bags can make finding what you want, when you want it, a lot easier!
The three categories I would recommend are:
Labour bag – containing everything you need for yourself during labour. Don’t forget about things your partner might want too.
Baby bag – containing everything your baby might need for the first few days of life. Your baby doesn’t really need that much in those early days, other than your care and attention and breastmilk. But you will need some basics in the way of clothes and nappies!
Postpartum bag – containing everything you will want once baby has landed earthside. You’ll need some basics for those hours or days in hospital too so having everything ready to go in one handy bag is definitely the best way to do it.
